The biggest trouble with trauma and the insidious nature of conditioning is that you forget about it. So while it deeply influences your life, you don’t know it.
How many times have I defended my version of a story instead of looking at why I was so upset? How many times have I simply blamed others for their actions instead of seeing what it touched in me?
I don’t even know the number, but it’s a lot!
It’s so easy to become intelligent (clever) and miss how defended we are from feeling the pain of the past.
And yet, the pain of the past is one of two powerful forces driving the repetition of so many experiences.
The other force?
Your deep desire to live your life purpose.
(Dr. Charmoli and I wax philosophic for quite a time about this on our latest notcast. You can observe the chaos here.)
Like most stories from Greek mythology, the place of your deepest injury is usually exactly where your greatest gift resides.
For me, I grew up in a house where I learned that to express the truth was to get into trouble. So naturally, I grew up afraid to both speak up or tell the truth. Later on, I found out my father had been having an affair for a long time and had conveniently fought with my mother over my behavior in high school so he could fly under the radar.
When I discovered the affair in my twenties, I became a truth warrior. I was afraid to speak and out of control when I did. It was sort of like driving the car with one foot on the gas and the other foot on the brake.
All my life I’ve had a gift to see deeply into things very quickly and a fear to say it. You could say my trauma and my gifts were merged.
This is an example of how powerful trauma can be for both healing and transforming your life and also preventing you from living your purpose.
Sarah and I invite you to bring your deepest unresolved issue to our class and let the breath bring you back home to your heart and spirit.
